EASY STEPS TO CHECK THE ACCURACY OF A SPIRIT LEVEL

EASY STEPS TO CHECK THE ACCURACY OF A SPIRIT LEVEL

For a high-performing tradie, an accurate spirit level is a vital and an essential tool that’s reliable and also enables good quality work. But given the worksite environment and the grind that the levels go through regularly, it’s always a good practice to check its accuracy from time to time.

Here’s how you can check your level’s integrity by following these simple steps:

Horizontal vial:

  1. Place the level on a flat surface
  2. Make two marks, one at the end of the level (End Mark) and the other along the body of the level that’s in line with the horizontal vial (Test Point)
  3. Read the vial and remember the bubble’s position
  4. Turn the level around 180° from end to end and set side of the level back on the test surface. Be sure to line up the vial with the Test Point
  5. Take your second reading

Vertical vial:

  1. Place the level against a vertical doorframe or flat wall
  2. Make two marks, one at the end of the level (End Mark) and the other along the body of the level that’s in line with the vertical vial (Test Point)
  3. Read the vial and remember the bubble’s position
  4. Turn the level from side to side (not end to end) and place it back on the wall. Be sure to line up the vial with your Test Point
  5. Take you second reading

The bubble in an accurate level will give you the same reading both times. Any difference in the bubble’s position equates the degree of inaccuracy in the level.

And you can draw your own comparison too. Here are 3 aspects that you should consider before choosing the right level for the job:

Level Vials – Make sure that the vials on the level are strong and can withstand temperature changes or static electricity. Also check for luminescent reflectors and magnifying lenses that are also crucial features to provide good clarity in all light conditions.

Tolerance – For accurate measurements, check the tolerance for levelling in both standard and reverse positions.

Weight – Ensure the level weighs over 500gm to guarantee strength and shock-absorbing rubber end-caps that will protect from any damage.

Save time, money and reduce stress when it comes to measuring out of level surfaces. The Pro Level from OX Tools is the next evolution in spirit levels that gives you supreme accuracy and superior measuring capabilities.
